Hebrews 11.14-16

“For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. And truly, if they had been mindful of the country from where they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. But now they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for He has prepared for them a city.”

When Israel came out of Egypt they were looking for the land of promise which God has given to them. During their travel they soon longed to return to Egypt. The hardship they encountered caused them to remember the food they left behind. The fact that they were slave didn’t factor in to their memory. They were “mindful of the country from where they came out.” Some wanted to return and in doing so rebelled against God.

The Lord has given to us a place in Heaven through faith in Christ. This world is not our home. We are indeed “pilgrims and strangers on the earth.” Our life here is to be lived for the purpose of God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our faith must be strong or we will be drawn into the frivolous pursuits of the world. All of our life goals should be anchored in Christ. Anything else will just weaken our faith and detour our life.

The best way to strengthen your faith is through studying the Bible. God’s Word builds our faith. Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you as you read and pray through His Word. Drifting back into the world’s way of living is always costly. Living for the Lord is always beneficial. God has so much in store for you. When it’s your time to leave this world make sure you leave it with your task completed. Finish the race that God set before you. Souls are in the balance.

Jesus is LORD!
